Parents need to be able to navigate what living in a diverse community means on a regular basis. Each type of diversity brings unique challenges for parents. Every family brings a different perspective to this conversation and we want to create a welcoming environment for children from all types of families through greater parent awareness. Parents need to understand how to affirm and support this exploration. The conversation will include understanding our perspectives and how these may impact our children. This session will ground parents’ experiences in research and begin a productive dialogue about the challenges of navigating race, gender, ability, family structure, faith and other forms of difference that will benefit the entire community.

Elisabeth “Biz” Lindsay-Ryan is a diversity professor, trainer and consultant. She completed her Master’s of Arts at DePaul University in Human Services and Counseling in 2000, and she earned her Bachelor’s of Arts at DePauw University majoring in History with Minors in African American Studies and Education in 1997. What a beautiful evening! The Silver Jubilee was a huge success! Thank you to all who attended, donated, volunteered and helped plan the event. Special thanks go to Bon Events,  our Development Director, Toni Goehring, our Financial Manager, Shirlene Ward, our emcee, Patrick Keenan-Devlin and our alumni speaker, David Steinberg. Enormous thanks to Susan Hope-Engel for producing and creating the incredibly heartwarming and moving film “Cherryness” to celebrate our 25th anniversary. At the event, we were thrilled to announce the establishment of the Laurie Levy Scholarship Fund in honor of our founding director. We raised more funds than anticipated – approximately $100,000!!! – for scholarships and our Inclusion Program for children with special needs.

We want all of our Cherry friends and family to have the opportunity to see “Cherryness” by Susan Hope Engel. Click here to enjoy our 25th anniversary film. Please feel free to share it with your friends and family!
